Last week I had the pleasure of taking Kay Faulkner’s East Meets West course at the Contextart Forum in the Blue Mountains near Sydney. We had the opportunity to apply techniques used on backstrap looms in West Timor and Burma to shaft looms.
I signed up primarily to learn about Timorese wrapping (Buna, pictured above) and how it differed from that which I had learned in Bhutan and Guatemala, but I loved also having the opportunity to try out several other warp-faced techniques, including Sotis:
