Timorese Techniques with Kay Faulkner

Last week I had the pleasure of taking Kay Faulkner’s East Meets West course at the Contextart Forum in the Blue Mountains near Sydney. We had the opportunity to apply techniques used on backstrap looms in West Timor and Burma to shaft looms.

I signed up primarily to learn about Timorese wrapping (Buna, pictured above) and how it differed from that which I had learned in Bhutan and Guatemala, but I loved also having the opportunity to try out several other warp-faced techniques, including Sotis:

My readers in North America may be interested in the East Meets West seminar that Kay will be presenting on this topic for Complex Weavers in June 2014

  1. Looks great. How did you find out about the course? I’d love to go along to something similar but am not yet connected very well with the Australian weaving community, other than via my local Melbourne guild. Do you have any tips?

  2. When someone writes an post he/she retains the image of a user in his/her brain that how
a user can understand it. Therefore that’s why this post is perfect.
