Unlike the markets in Can Cau & Bac Ha, where the women could buy the components of their dress ready-made, at Muang Hum only the fabrics, ribbons, braids, threads & beads were being sold, so the women were making their own outfits. This resulted in fantastic variety amongst the clothing of the women of each ethnicity, and that much of it was hand-stitched. There were some really striking designs being worn, especially by the White Hmong women, including cross-stitched panels of such beautifully combined colours and shapes that they took my breath away.
